Recorded live at Terra Blues on Bleecker Street in New York City's last standing Blues Club this record is Short's most recent solo CD showcasing a year's worth of wood shedding under the tutelage of modern Country Blues master, Paul Rishell.
After receiving critical acclaim and international exposure for the 2006 release of "Backporch Blues" recorded in Memphis, TN with Brandon Santini of up and comers Delta Highway; this effort demonstrates growth in Short's fingerpicking and bottleneck technique on guitar as well as a maturity in song selection and presentation that has developed by playing higher level venues and festivals as well as Blues in Schools presentations. After a solo international tour in the Summer of 2007 and in prepartation to compete at the Semi-Finals of the International Blues Challenge Short spent the remainder of 2007 and 2008 focusing on solo performances playing few dates with his band.
This "bare-bones" soundboard recording contains select songs commonly performed in the fall of '07 with Short's signature high energy delivery of vocals and fingerpicked National steel guitar. The only thing keeping the listener from that "in the same room experience" is the absence of narrative and history that introduce most of the songs at his performances.
The record includes 13 tracks covering a virtual history of pre-war country blues, and while none are original we get an idea of the foundation and direction his new original material will take. The importance of keeping the Blues alive is evident in Jon Short's work to date. The shape and development of original material to come leaves this blues fan very excited.
