Mercy Street, the latest project by independent artist Brad Irons, is a solid contemporary Christian music offering with more than a few surprises. From his own original compositions to his cover of "Faithfully" by Journey, Brad proves that he's here to play and to stay.
Kicking it off with the gospel-tinged title track, he moves effortlessly between different styles while keeping a strong unifying element: his acoustic guitar. Although Brad plays quite a few instruments on the recording, it's his acoustic groove stylings that shines through many of the mixes. Strong tracks on the CD include the cover of "You Will Go Free" originally by Tonio K, and the original song "Praying For You". Influences of Christian artists (Steven Curtis Chapman, Keith Green, Wayne Watson and Billy Crockett) mix with secular influences (Billy Joel, Jason Mraz and Kenny Loggins) to create a unique style that seems very familiar, but you just can't place it.
