Kentucky song writer, Eric Watson, has released a moving homage to Sanibel Island, Florida, and her accompanying islands. “Sand In Our Toes” is the debut CD of 46 year old song writer Eric Watson of Paducah, Kentucky.
Eric has put to music the feelings that he and his wife, Jill, have shared on their many trips over the past 20 years to Sanibel and Captiva Islands of Florida’s Gulf Coast. “You just have to see the shells for yourself,” remarks Eric, about the main allure of the islands. “Sand In Our Toes” with it’s compelling lyrics makes you feel as if the tide were just out of reach. “Sanibel, A Song for the Girls” truly captures what the island is all about, from the jingle of shells to it’s laid back atmosphere. “Captiva” is a fun sing-a-long song that makes you want to hop on a plane and come down to unwind on the beach with a tropical drink and a fine cigar.
The musical journey started four years ago at McIntosh Road Studio, a magical place tucked in the rolling countryside of Western Kentucky. “Owner, Steve Holshouser, along with daughter, Rachel, indulged our every whim on the project from looking at our photos of Sanibel to wearing tropical attire, giving the music a genuine island flavor.” said Eric. The colorful eco-friendly CD cover was created by Eric’s wife, Jill, from pictures taken while vacationing in Sanibel.
The CD has nine songs with an interwoven theme of love and tranquility found in the warm southern sun. “Breathe You In” a sultry jazz song, “Ocean of Love” an island love song, and “Love Line” with it’s reggae rhythms, set the romance for this easy listening CD. “Olive’s Song” the eighth song of this collection is about the Watson’s little dachshund, Olive, named after the olive whelk shells found on Sanibel and Captiva Island. Olive lost the use of her back legs due to a degenerative back disease that left her partially paralyzed. She now gets around using a cart. Eric explained, “We learned so much after Olive’s injury. We had to slow things down. I really think it helped us take in more of life’s beauty.” Another featured song,“Our Time” speaks of doing just that, taking time to enjoy each other in this hustle bustle world in which we live. “Cayo Costa” the fourth song tells an intriguing story of the mysterious “Shell People” that inhabited the island during the discovery of the new world.
“Sand in our Toes” is a CD you can put in and enjoy from the ocean’s surf that introduces “Sanibel, a Song for the Girls,” to the cackling of the sea gulls that ushers out “Sanibel Reprise.” This CD takes you on a musical journey inspired by a beautiful part of our great country in Lee County Florida.
